“Please G-d, I’m Only 17” Is Something Every new driver should read!

“Please G-d I’m Only 17” was written by Dr. Michael Lee Poling when he was child in memory of his deceased friend Jimmy Rowe. When I was 14, my friend Sue shared it with me and it has remained a part of my memory. While doing some spring cleaning this past weekend, I found an old journal and in it was this incredible poem.

My oldest son is approaching driving age and his younger brother is not far behind. Dr. Polling’s words helped me use some caution as a driver so I thought I would share it with both of them. And then I remembered all of my friends and their soon-to-be-driving children. The list of who I wanted to read this grew and grew.

The lasting impression the poem had on me made perfect sense when I read it for the first time in many, many years.

In my work as a medium, I meet the nicest, most beautiful people. Some of them schedule appointments and come to my office for a reading. And some of them are on the other side. What strikes me now is that the words in this poem echo the words I frequently hear from those in spirit who died at a young age.

Spring is my favorite time of year. It is so full of promise and so lovely. It has been known to cause spring fever however, and that of course can bring on fast driving for those of all ages! My hope in including Dr. Michael Lee Poling’s moving poem in my blog is not to cause fear but to ignite caution.

PLEASE GOD, I’M ONLY 17 by Dr. Michael Lee Poling
The day I died was an ordinary school day. How I wish I had taken the bus. But I was too cool for the bus. I remember how I wheedled the car out of Mom. “Special favor,” I pleaded. “All the kids drive.”

When the 2:50 bell rang, I threw all my books in the locker. I was free until 8:40 tomorrow morning! I ran to the parking lot, excited at the thought of driving a car and being my own boss. Free!

It doesn’t matter how the accident happened. I was goofing off — going too fast — taking crazy chances. But I was enjoying my freedom and having fun. The last thing I remember was passing an old lady who seemed to be going awfully slow. I heard the deafening crash and felt a terrible jolt. Glass and steel flew everywhere. My whole body seemed to be turning inside out. I heard myself scream.

Suddenly I awakened; it was very quiet. A police officer was standing over me. Then I saw a doctor. My body was mangled. I was saturated with blood. Pieces of jagged glass were sticking out all over. Strange that I couldn’t feel anything.

Hey, don’t pull that sheet over my head! I can’t be dead. I’m only 17. I’ve got a date tonight. I’m supposed to grow up and have a wonderful life. I haven’t lived yet. I can’t be dead!

Later I was placed in a drawer. My folks had to identify me. Why did they have to see me like this? Why did I have to look at Mom’s eyes when she faced the most terrible ordeal of her life? Dad suddenly looked like an old man. He told the man in charge, “Yes, he is my son.”

The funeral was a weird experience. I saw all my relatives and friends walk toward the casket. They passed by, one by one, and looked at me with the saddest eyes I’ve ever seen. Some of my buddies were crying. A few of the girls touched my hand and sobbed as they walked away.

Please — somebody — wake me up! Get me out of here! I can’t bear to see my mom and dad so broken up. My grandparents are so racked with grief they can hardly walk. My brothers and sisters are like zombies. They move like robots. In a daze, everybody. No one can believe this. And I can’t believe it, either.

Please don’t bury me! I’m not dead! I have a lot of living to do! I want to laugh and run again. I want to sing and dance. Please don’t put me in the ground. I promise if you give me one more chance, God, I’ll be the most careful driver in the whole world. All I want is one more chance!

Please, God, I’m only 17!

When the Spirit Moves You, or at least Your Cell Phone!

Emily, Jodi, Elizabeth Jodi Mayers What does a cell phone that turns  itself on and off as it moves across a wooden table at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, a medium, chickens with cool names, a clothing store with soul & fashion, TWIN CITIES LIVE and Savvy.MN have in common?

We were all part of the FIRST FUEL U event on January 21st, 2013!

It’s mid-winter, mid-January and a mid-mood kind of day.

Twin Cities Live and Savvy.MN, sponsored a fabulous event that sold out long before the doors opened!

Those on the stage were MC Emily Engberg (Twin Cities Live), Jodi Mayers (Corset Styling and Fashion Boutique), Elizabeth Ries (Co-host of Twin Cities Live) and Jodi Livon (Author and Resident psychic on Twin Cities Live).

The night was about FASHION, FOOD and FAITH!

Elizabeth, Emily and I sat together and listened with great interest as Jodi Mayers spoke to the crowd. Jodi is the owner of Corset Styling & Fashion Boutique in Edina. She has a unique and creative approach to helping individuals create great looks that build confidence. She is a dynamo in business and a marvelous speaker!

As I listened, a funny feeling began to grow in the pit of my stomach and I knew it had nothing to do with who was speaking. My cell phone turned itself off, then on again. I picked it up, turned it off and set it down. It immediately turned itself on. Then off. I tuned in and felt the presence of an older man in spirit with a very distinct personality. He looked young, seemed strict in nature, and may have struggled to be flexible while on this side.

I slipped Elizabeth a note, asking if her grandfather was on the other side. She shook her head yes so I slid my errant phone over to her and said it was for her.

I told her it was her Grandfather…he was very meticulous and had something to say. She looked at me, tilted her head and smiled. Later she confirmed much of what I had to say but at that moment, all I knew was that my phone was dancing and that my nerves gave me the hiccups.

For years now I have allowed my faith to rule, not my fear. And tonight I would have an opportunity to ignite the same in others. I wanted to do it well, really well and my phone was not exactly cooperating.

Next it was time for Elizabeth to speak about her interesting adventures in urban homesteading and how she balances her love of television, radio and farming. She had the audience laughing, especially when she shared tales of her one thousand Red Wiggler worms and her chickens. She blogs about her adventures in urban farming at http://www.hometohomestead.com.

I was the third and last speaker to go on, and my topic was faith. As I made my way to the back of the stage, I intuitively started to pick up on the energy of a few spirits. Theaters are famous for housing a lot of spirit energy and this one is no different.

Standing in the dimly lit space, I read and re-read my carefully prepared notes….

Like so many people, I have spent a good deal of time struggling to find my groove, to find what fit for me as a woman. I found early on that to succeed, I had to put ALL of my abilities to use, and this included my creative and intuitive abilities.

Eventually it became clear that my strong business sense was strongly related to my uncanny intuitive senses, so I decided to combine the two and began my work as an Intuitive coach.

I wanted to help other people Recognize their own Intuitive Voice. So I stepped out of the psychic closet and up to the plate.

I looked up from my notes and around me at the neatly placed props and felt someone tap on my shoulder. It was a darling man with light brown hair and a slight limp, who was by the way deceased. He had something to say so he moved close to me, really close. His breath smelled a bit of alcohol.

He told me that my dear friend Michelle’s name would be drawn to win the prize (that I had donated) of a free reading. He said she would give it back and someone with highly passionate energy would then win it.

My intuition perked up.

There wasn’t time for me to find out more because fabulous and funny Emily was about to introduce me.

My presentation was a blast. The audience was so open and wonderful I would like to go back.

And Michelle won the reading.

According to Emily, Jodi and Elizabeth, as I spoke my cell phone trotted across the table while turning itself on and off.

Holiday Happiness and Diminishing Stress!

The holidays are a special time of year. For anyone over twenty, the memories of holidays past can be big a part of what goes into the festivities and make them even more meaningful.

Everyone from family to co-workers to friends is high on expectations during the Holiday season! Maintain an open mind and mind your boundaries..you will have a far more fun!

When we have good boundaries we know where our space begins and ends!

We are aware of how we feel so if suddenly we are sad or tired and drained after talking with someone, we know we have to clear our filter and boost our boundaries.

When we establish and maintain decent filters in our life, the benefits are infinite. We may find that people take us more seriously. Goals may be achieved at a faster pace than before due to your new ability to focus. Other people will not feel as inclined to dump their feelings on us! We will feel more peaceful, less reactive, and better able to take care of ourselves.

The Key is knowing how we feel! Other people’s emotional stuff, is theirs. We can love them and respect them without taking their stuff on!

This month, I did themed rapid readings on TWIN CITIES LIVE. The theme is..you guessed it…about Holiday Stress!

Holiday Stress

Whether you love the holidays or dread them, there is one thing that always surrounds it.  Plain and simple, the holidays can be stressful.  TCL resident psychic and medium Jodi Livon is here to help some of our audience members stay calm over the next few months.

Out of the Box, Twin Cities Live and Ghosts!

Out of the box. That is how more than one co-worker over the years has described the way I view things. Out of the box means a unique or creative way of thinking. I love thinking and seeing things that are not so obvious. Good thing because as a medium, I do that a lot! Whether it is picking up on someone’s feelings, their past, or sensing the presence of a spirit from the other side, I’m responding to responses and finding solutions to existing or potential problems. I love my work as an intuitive coach.

Going into places that are occupied by earth bound spirits however has not typically been my favorite thing because a certain amount of suffering is almost always present. And as a medium, I want to help alleviate suffering but cannot if the one in pain is not willing to change their mode of thinking.

Thankfully, when my producers at Twin Cities Live have asked me to conduct ghost investigations I have had the clean, clear and wonderful energy of Kerry Klatt around me. And things have gotten even better…Dave Schrader has joined us and he is one fun and knowledgeable guy. No matter what is happening, we always manage to laugh.

In all of my years there has been only one ‘haunted’ place I have wanted to see, feel and be in. That place is the home of author Annie Wilder. When I learned that Twin Cities Live was considering shooting a segment at her home I was delighted! Though I had never been there, I could feel that the vibration was upbeat, spooky but not creepy and loaded with cool spirit energy!

This week Kerry Klatt of Twin Cities Live (www.Twincitieslive.com), Dave Schrader of Darkness Radio (www.Darknessradio.com), and I (www.TheIntuitiveCoach.com) visited Annie’s home (http://anniewilder.com) to check out any potential spirit activity. Well Annie’s house never ever seems to disappoint!

Lights blinked, a star hanging from a string on the ceiling was knocked by a dark figure, movement was seen peripherally, a little girl in spirit gently grabbed my arm and a spider crawled in my hair. Okay that last part about the spider was not ‘ghostly’ but it was creepy!

Annie’s house, from the front door to the dirt room in the basement is filled with spooks who are all spooky but not all creepy. To see the segment shot that night, tune into Twin Cities Live at 3:00 pm CST. on Friday the 13th of July! MTV Movie Awards, Twin Cities Live and Life

It’s been a busy and beautiful spring in Minnesota. Believe me, we typically earn our springs!

Spring, I have been told is a time for creating, planting, planning and rebirth. It’s also the season of my birth.

This year has been a big one for me with lots of loss and some beautiful gains. My husband and I moved our family to a new home. We loved our old community and we so love our new one as well. Our neighborhood is amazing and filled with kids!

On a sad note, I lost two dear friends to cancer. All the changes have changed me. I look even more fervently to the future. There is so much I want to accomplish; so much I want to learn. Magnetizing what I love is big on my list.

Something good and sweet must be in the air and I am so grateful. My book, The Happy Medium (Llewellyn, 2009) will be included in the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Four Seasons Gift Bags! Once I receive the list of recipients, I will post!

I do believe The Happy Medium has met and will meet more stars than I! I have met several however, thanks to Twin Cities Live! The show (www.Twincitieslive.com) has been a wonder for me. My last segment, (http://twincitieslive.com/article/stories/s2623886.shtml?cat=12235) titled, Following Your Intuition apparently sparked something for viewers because my email box has been brimming with comments and/or requests for readings. The segment is about the intuitive process and how we can ALL put it to good use!

Put yours to good use..TRUST IT! Or as I love to say…Trust your Gut, Follow your Heart and use your Head!

Oscar Gift Bags

Oscar, Oscar, Oscar!

I love reading energy. It is especially fun at parties, where people tend to shine the brightest. The Oscars, now that is one huge party and this year I’ll be watching the stars, reading the energy and wondering whose hands my book, “The Happy Medium” (Llewellyn Worldwide) has and will been in.

“The Happy Medium” is in especially good company this weekend. It is, along with a host of unique and amazing items, in the Four Season Hotel Oscar Gift Bags! The bags include some fabulous products such as a gift set from Intelligent Nutrients, some truly amazing wine and chocolate and a $1500 Un Amore mixer that as I understand it, Khloe Kardashian also owns. The list goes on so I have included a few links for your viewing pleasure.

People are asking me how “The Happy Medium” landed in the Oscar Bag. It happened through a series of seemingly unrelated events that ended in my book being voted into the bag by the hosts of Twin Cities Live, John Hanson and Elizabeth Ries! This is the link to the segment as well as a list of the fabulous items in the bag! http://twincitieslive.com/article/stories/s2504635.shtml?cat=10698

CNN Entertainment did a story on the bags titled, Oscars bring gifts for A-list to D-list. “The Happy Medium” is in the upper right hand corner of the photo.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to go paint my daughter’s nails and help her put on a fancy dress. This IS Oscar night after all!

Is this how a blog works…I’m adding to it?!

Here is a list of some of the celebrities who stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel who received an OSCAR GIFT BAG!
